Wow, we have just loved New Zealand. It feels like we have seen most of the 50 million sheep, and many many new lambs and at least half of the 9 million cows. The South Island is one of the most beautiful places i have ever been. Every day we kept thinking that we couldn't possibly do anything that would match the previous day, but we did. Just an amazing place we are already planning a return trip to.
NZ was our first camper van holiday and although it has worked out at double the budget, coming in at around £100 a day, it has been a unique experience. We have been free camping and tramping all over the place and the sheep were just about as happy about having us bed down near them as we were to see them every morning.
We are only in Aukland for 2 days but love Ponsonby Road, an uber cool street full of trendy bars, cafes, clothes and various independent stores. Oh how i wish i had budgeted for buying hundreds of pounds worth of cool but totally unnecessary items in the travel budget.
Daniel and i have discovered a shared passion for tramping (or hiking as we know it back home) and have loved getting up at 6 am to get going and get some great photos. Just wish the net would let me post some...have been trying for ages but will keep trying...
Fiji and the USA next where we will be camping - you should see the size of the tent we are in. The campervan, which was great, will now seem like a grand palace. Will let you know how i take to sleeping in a coffin sized canopy in a US winter!
Take care,
Anna
